According to the IRS beginning with the 2014 tax filing season any same-sex couples possessing a marriage license from any U.S. state that allows same-sex marriage can file joint federal tax return. This is following the Supreme Court’s ruling in June striking down a key section of the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act.
